Hungarian Art was the biggest exhibition of contemporary Hungarian art in Slovakia. It presented the works of twenty-seven painters, graphic artists and sculptors, most of them working in several art disciplines and in intermedia. It showed a broad range of concepts of expressionistic tendencies in the work of major Hungarian artists representing several generations and surveying the phenomenon of expressivity from different perspectives. The exhibition viewed the Central European cultural heritage from the perspective of local relationships in art. They can enrich modernist tradition and overcome common stereotypes. Undoubtedly, contemporary Hungarian art is a clear example of the current development. The participating artists were the leading figures of the Hungarian neo-avant-garde that appeared on the art scene in the second half of the 1960s. This generation rejected traditional concepts and integrated Hungarian art into the European context. The show included, among others, István Nádler, Hencze Tamás, Ilona Kesserü, the classic of contemporary art Kilmó Károly, protagonists of new painting such as Kelemen Károly, Fehér László, Koncz András, Bukta Imre, Gaál József and the sculptor Tamás Körösényi. The majority of the participating artists of the middle-aged generation are leading figures who have profoundly influenced the development of Hungarian art.
