Renowned poet, lyricist and painter
Fan Xueyi has been writing poetry since childhood. In 2002, she published her first poetry collection Childhood River. In 2008, after several years of curating art exhibitions and running XYZ Gallery she had founded in 2006 and still runs, she began painting, mastering both traditional Chinese literati ink and oil painting techniques.
She published Seasons Pier with Xiling Seal Society Press in 2009, followed in 2016 by the poetry and paintings collection Seasons Grass, in 2023 Auntie’s Rhymes, a book featuring works by Hao Li together with poems by Fan Xueyi inspired by those works, and in 2025 Further Than North, a book with poems and paintings by her together with poems and photos by her brother, drawing on their experiences in their home in China’s Northeast.
She has written lyrics for several Chinese TV series and dramas, including the theme song “I Repay Love With Everything I Have” for Feng Xiaogang’s Night Banquet and songs for Dreaming of Qinghe and Police Stories. In 2004, she collaborated with Taiwanese musicians on the music album Singing in the Wind. Since 2020, she has served as literary and artistic consultant for the China National Opera and Dance Drama Theater, acting as literary editor for the dance drama Li Bai and as writer and contributor for Dancing Into Spring.
In connection with exhibitions at XYZ Gallery, she has published several books, most recently On Bada Shanren | Fan Xueyi in Dialogue with Zhu Da. Her works have been exhibited in France, Germany, Denmark, the United States of America, several countries in South America and other locations; her art is held in public and private collections both in China and internationally.
