Trained as a graphic artist and painter, currently a multimedia artist, Ján Kelemen initially developed his pictorial world almost in seclusion. It was a process in which several factors participated. First of all, he was willing to experiment and ignore common stereotypes in painting, graphic art or sculpture. The character of his contemporary work and the process of its transformation, from the treatment of surface to the integration of space, were influenced by his activities focused on the revitalisation of the natural environment. The new quality of the relationship between art and nature became the philosophical essence of his work. He was determined to continue developing the main categories of his work: movement and space. Initially he exploited calligraphic gestures, emphasising dynamism and colour contrasts. Gradually, he enlarged the format, simplified the pictorial composition and achieved inner monumentality. He created his own identifiable idiom which reflects his experience in spatial installations exhibited in the open air or at exhibitions. They show the sign system of horizontals and verticals derived from work in situ with wooden rollers, logs and stone. The non-traditional installation at the Danubiana develops, in addition to the use of his experience in painting and work in real space, the new structuring of space by means of 3D technology.
